Trade Deadline Proposals
I create my own proposals, as well as look at proposals from people on Twitter!
With less than a week left until the deadline, I got some proposals from folks on Twitter, on what the Flames should do.
Let’s start it off with Twitter user @NHLforester, who says the Flames should trade F Derek Ryan to the Oilers for a 2022 3rd round pick. I have no issues with this deal from a Flames perspective. Ryan is a pending UFA, so getting back a 3rd round pick would be beneficial for the Flames. It would suck sending Ryan to the Oilers, and I’m sure you would have to retain 50% of Ryan’s salary, but this deal looks good to me!
Next, @matthews_centre suggests trading Rittich to the Leafs, for G prospect Ian Scott, and a 2021 2nd rounder. That’s a really good package for Rittich, getting a 2nd rounder, plus a decent goalie prospect, for Rittich is a good haul. I would see if you can get a forward or defence prospect instead of Ian Scott, but I can’t hate this deal as you get two aspects back for an expiring asset.
@curtis_fid98 suggests the Flames trade Sam Bennett and a 2021 3rd rounder to the Ducks, for Troy Terry. I like the idea of acquiring Terry for sure, I think you might need to up that pick to a 2nd rounder and that that might be closer, but I like the look of this!
@Shae_Nuge93 suggests an interesting proposal. He says the Flames should trade Sean Monahan and Oliver Kylington to the Pittsburgh Penguins, in exchange for Marcus Pettersson, prospect Nathan Legare, and a 2022 3rd. I have no problems with this deal. Monahan as a 3C would be so great for the Penguins, and the Flames would get some good assets back. I think the return is fair for Monahan and Kylington, however, I don’t know where Pettersson would fit, as the Flames are already pretty steep on the left side. Maybe they could flip Pettersson to another team or pick up a different player from Pittsburgh, but I like the looks of this deal!
@spennywalks suggests the Flames trade Johnny Gaudreau to the Minnesota Wild, for F Jordan Greenway, prospect Adam Beckman, and a 2022 1st. This is a good prospect of the Gaudreau deal, getting a replacement LW for Gaudreau, plus a B level prospect and a 1st. If the Flames are not planning on re-signing Gaudreau, this is a huge win. Might be a little too much from Minnesota’s perspective, as Greenway has really taken off this year.
@Habs_76_ suggests the Flames trade Johnny Gaudreau to the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for Paul Byron, Artturi Lehkonen, and a 2021 1st rounder. I don’t think this is enough from the Canadiens in exchange for Gaudreau, two bottom 6 forwards and a late 1st is not enough from a Flames perspective.
@TheReal_SCG suggested two interesting trades, so let’s get into them.
First, he suggests Sam Bennett to the Minnesota Wild, in exchange for Victor Rask and prospect Calen Addison. I like the looks of this deal, however I think it favours the Flames quite a bit. Addison is a very good prospect, so that doesn’t make up for the difference between Bennett and Rask. It would help the Wild’s cap space to get rid of the extra year of Rask’s contract, but I don’t think Bennett is enough for them to get rid of Addison. You’d probably have to add a pick or a prospect on Calgary’s end to make this work.
Next, he suggests trading Sam Bennett to the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for JT Compher. I really like this deal, two players of similar age that need a change of scenery. Compher has another two years after this one at a 3.5 million dollar cap hit, so it’s a bit of a gamble from Calgary’s perspective, but I like this. Good work!
@CrazySteveC suggests the Flames trade Sam Bennett to the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for Victor Mete. The basis of this deal is fine, although Mete still has a higher upside. Maybe a deal around Bennett + Kylington + a 2021 3rd for Mete + Lehkonen makes this deal a bit fairer and makes sense.
Now for some proposals of my own:
A trade that makes sense to me would be Sam Bennett being sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins, in exchange for Colton Sceviour (cap dump) and a 2022 3rd.
As for Derek Ryan, like @NHLforester suggested, trading him to the Oilers for a 2022 3rd would be ideal. I could also see the Knights as an underdog team to acquire Ryan. A trade that makes sense with the Knights would be sending Ryan there, in exchange for C Nicholas Roy and a late draft pick.
As for David Rittich, a trade that makes sense to me would be to send Rittich to the Avalanche, in exchange for minor G Hunter Miska, and a 2021 3rd round pick.
I’ll throw out a Sean Monahan trade too, just for fun! He was almost a Blue Jacket in the summer, so let’s send him there again, in exchange for Max Domi, and a draft pick. Monahan probably has Columbus on his M-NTC, but this is for fun and speculation, so I think a Monahan for Domi swap would benefit both teams. Domi would fit in great in Calgary under Sutter, and Monahan could benefit from a change of scenery.
This was a fun one to look at some proposals from you guys, as well as create some proposals myself!
Let’s see what Treliving does here within the next week,
